Game Model

Set Pieces

Set Piece Strategy

Set pieces are not an accident of the game — they are a structural opportunity. They account for 30% of goals. We treat every situation as a designed play, not a random event.

Offensive Set Pieces

Corners

We don't take corners to cross. We take corners to execute designed plays. Every corner has a name and a sequence.

Corner 'Cascade'

Execution

Short corner → back pass → cross to far post with 2 players arriving in staggered runs.

Advantage

The opponent is disorganised by the first movement. The second movement is lethal.

Corner 'Block'

Execution

Direct delivery to near post. 2 players block the marker of the designated header.

Advantage

Physical superiority in the finishing zone. The header arrives unmarked.

Corner 'Recycle'

Execution

Short corner with combination play in the area. If no cross in 5 sec → recycle to pivot.

Advantage

Maintain possession even from a set piece. Never give the ball away.

Wide Free Kicks

Wide free kicks in zone 3 are mini-corners. They are treated with the same seriousness and design.

Free Kick 'Direct'

Execution

Direct shot if distance <25m. Designated taker according to side and distance.

Advantage

Automation: the taker is already decided before the foul is given.

Free Kick 'Wall Pass'

Execution

Short touch → wall → low cross into the area. 3 players arrive in waves.

Advantage

The opponent's defence expects an aerial cross. The low pass disorganises them.

Throw-ins

A throw-in in the opponent's half is not a restart. It is a territorial pressing opportunity.

Throw-in 'Overlap'

Execution

Throw to the interior → return pass to the overlapping full-back.

Advantage

Wide superiority generated from a static situation.

Defensive Set Pieces

Defensive Corners

Mixed defence: zonal in the six-yard box (3 players) + man-marking in the rest. 1 free player at near post.

  • Nobody stands still: permanent verbal communication
  • The near-post player always attacks the ball if it comes into their zone
  • Clearance: always outward — never back into the centre of the box
  • Second ball: 2 designated players to contest the clearance outside the box

Defensive Free Kicks

Automatic wall according to zone. Pre-set positions. Goalkeeper decides number of players in the wall.

  • Wall always to the short post — goalkeeper covers the far post
  • One player breaks from the wall on the kick to block low shots
  • If indirect free kick: entire wall jumps — goalkeeper does not move
