Press with Intelligence, Not Just Intensity
Pressing is not about running more. It is about closing options before the opponent identifies them. Every pressing action is activated by a specific trigger and executed as a collective protocol.
Pressing Philosophy
Press after ball loss as a non-negotiable identity. 3 seconds of maximum intensity — then a collective decision: do we recover or drop?
3 SECONDS
Press window post-loss. If no recovery, drop back.
QUADRANTS
The pitch is divided into zones. Each zone has its own pressing protocol.
TRIGGERS
Press is not decided individually. It is activated by collective stimuli.
Press Activators (Triggers)
Press by Quadrant
Zone 1 — Own half (0-25m)
Extreme low block. Lines inside 25m from goal. Defend with 10 players behind the ball. Goal: concede nothing, force error in the opponent's press.
Zone 2 — Own midfield (25-50m)
Mid-block. Selective pressure: only on the ball carrier. Compact lines. Don't jump — wait for the error. Interline distance: 25m.
Zone 3 — Opponent's midfield (50-75m)
Coordinated high press. Active triggers. Goal: force loss before the opponent can orient play. Top 3 + 2 interior midfielders press.
Zone 4 — Opponent's final third (75-100m)
Total press. Recover or delay. No way out. If not recovered in 5 sec, team drops to zone 3.
